Lindy's Concepts

Whew. You may or may not have noticed the previous posts have been comprised mainly of concept drawings. I've probably done more concept drawings in the past week than I ever have before. I have come to the conclusion that I love concept drawings. For me, they're the most exciting part of a project. I love sketching and I love the process of working on an idea until something solid emerges.

This particular set is for "Lindy's Sports Annual" (college basketball edition). I've illustrated for them in the past and it's always a kick in the head. Lindy's work is fast, furious, and challenging. Usually it involves losing some sleep in order to make deadline. And I love every minute of it.

The story deals with the NC/Duke rivalry, specifically coach Williams' apparent invincibility, even in the face of the legendary coaching abilities of Mike Krzyzewski. With that in mind, the concepts are as follows: A parody of the famous Muhammad Ali/Sonny Liston fight photo, Roy Williams as a 1950s high school bully, Roy Williams as Henry the 8th, and finally a reference to the Pied Piper.
